PAUL'S PERSONAL LIFE

It was common for an individual to be known by several names in the Roman world of Paul's day. Paul was his Latin name and Saul was his Hebrew name. He always had these names and they are unrelated to his conversion; that is, his name was not changed to Paul after his conversion.

It is the opinion of a number of scholars that Paul was married at one time but that his wife died or perhaps left him when he became a believer in Christ. While this falls into the realm of speculation, Paul's teachings on marriage and his presence in the Jewish Sanhedrin strongly suggests that he had been married.
